Structural engineering

An investment involving the revitalization and change of use of a historic gas storage building.

The 50 m high building, originally designed by architect Ferdinand Boberg in 1899, will ultimately serve a cultural function. The external form of the building, including the beautifully decorated brick façade supported by a granite plinth, will be fully preserved. An independent supporting structure was designed inside the building.

Mixed structure: monolithic reinforced concrete, steel, wooden.

The roof was supposed to be preserved in its original condition, but due to new standards and tighter safety margins this was not possible. Tyréns recreated the steel supporting structure as closely as possible to the original design, without compromising the requirements of modern standards.

In December 2021, the first contract began, including earthworks, foundations and roof demolition, which was completed in August 2023. Since September 2023, works related to the frame structure and interior finishing works have been in progress.

The scope of design work included technical expertise of the existing steel roof dome, static calculations of internal structures and the new steel roof dome, complete executive design and multidisciplinary coordination using BIM technology.
