East Link (OLK110 Gerstaberg)

Bridge engineering

East Link is a newly designed high-speed railway line (250 km/h) between Järna and Linköping, approximately 160 km long in Sweden. The expected date of opening the line for use is 2025.

The main bridge crosses four tracks of the existing railway line and consists of three structures:

  • two approach viaducts (the northern one 390.2 m long, and the southern one, 344.1 m long
  • a viaduct over four tracks of the existing railway line – a portal viaduct (pergola bridge) with a length of 194.4 m. Bridge carries the U3 track of the planned East Link railway line.

Tyrens Poland is designing the northern approach viaduct. It is a thirteen-span continuous structure made of prestressed concrete (post-tensioned concrete), designed for the assumed construction technology by concreting on stationary scaffoldings using the “span by span” method.

The second designed structure is a railway viaduct over the local road, along which two tracks of the East Link railway line (U3 and N3) are located. The designed bridge is a closed reinforced concrete frame with a span of 9.8 m in the wall axes and a total length of 10.6 m. The width of the object is 19.33 m.

In addition to the above-mentioned bridge structures, for the purposes of construction of a viaduct over the tracks of the existing railway line, Tyrens Polska designed a protective portal to protect employees performing works related to the construction of the portal viaduct. It is a single-bay steel portal frame with a span of 24.4 m. The length of protection provided by the safety portal is 168 m. Due to the need to ensure the possibility of quick assembly and disassembly of the portal resulting from the limited closure time of the existing railway line, the portal was made in the form of 7 m long modules.
